Millions of dollars and hundred of lives are lost every year in the Unted States because of fires.  One of the most dangerous sources for home fires is the common mattress.  Older mattresses, and in particular mattresess made before 2007, are highly-combustible.  In simpler terms, these mattresses burn faster and at a higher temperature than newer mattresses.  Newer mattresses are required to have fire retardant barriers built into the construction as a means of reducing the risk of mattress fires.
